Acqua Al 2 came to life in Florence, Italy in 1978, and over the past 30 years has become an intimately loved dining establishment by world travelers, local Florentines and international celebrities. In 2000, Chef Martin Gonzalez brought the creative Italian cuisine and warm hospitality to San Diego, winning "Best New Restaurant" in 2001 and "Favorite Italian Restaurant" from 2003-2006 by San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter Association.

Acqua Al 2 dishes are served in courses similar to traditional eating customs in Italy. The menu presents a list of courses arranged the way Italians would order. There are a variety of Insalata (salads), Primi (first courses, rice and pasta dishes), Secondi (steak, seafood and other second course entrees) and homemade Dolci (desserts). Bread follows Italian tradition, too, arriving warm and crisp in a paper bag served with oil and balsamic vinegar.

Delivering on the elegant, warm "Florentine" ambiance, Acqua Al 2 welcomes patrons with the romance of rich, dark woodwork and dramatic brickwork and wine displays. The artistry is so authentic, even the menu covers and placemats are designed by Italian artists. White plates adorn the walls signed with messages and well wishes from guests who dined at both locations. John Ashcroft, Roger Clemens, local television news anchor Carol LeBeau, even members of the Mexican National soccer team and National League baseball players have left their mark on a plate or two at this well-known hot spot.
